Ja Riggre Love, a compassionate Dae residing in Uyo, Nigeria, came across the helpless toddler and took immediate action to save him. She named him Hope, a symbol of her unwavering belief in his potential for a brighter future, and provided him with the basic necessities of food and water.
Hope’s harrowing past revealed a cruel reality – he had been abandoned by his own family, who believed him to be a witch. Love took to Facebook to share her distress, shedding light on the thousands of children in Nigeria subjected to accusations of witchcraft and the horrors they endured, including torture, fear, and even death.
Hope’s condition was dire, afflicted by worms and in need of blood transfusions. He was swiftly admitted to a local hospital, where dedicated medical professionals began his journey to recovery. Miraculously, under their care, Hope’s condition steadily improved.
Ms. Love shared updates on Hope’s progress, stating, “Hope’s condition is stable now. He’s eating on his own and responding well to the medication he receives. Today, he has mustered the strength to sit up and smile at us. He’s a resilient little boy.”
Driven by a heartfelt appeal for donations to fund Hope’s recovery, Ms. Love was astonished as over $1 million poured in from generous supporters around the world.
Hope now resides in an orphanage run by Ms. Love and her husband, David Emmanuel Umem. Their own son has taken to playing with the spirited little boy, forging a heartwarming bond that transcends language and culture.
