Bizarre Tale: ‘Mr. Duck’ Sported the Hair of an 18th-Century Judge.
The image of crested ducks immediately conjures up images of British judges in the 18th century. This intriguing breed of poultry was introduced to Europe by Dutch ships from the East Indies. Their unique crested head is the result of a genetic mutation.
On a poultry trading website, female crested ducks are being sold for $11.56 (equivalent to 270,000 VND), while males are available for $5.98 (approximately 140,000 VND). Their breeding season extends from early June to the end of August each year.
This duck breed enjoys immense popularity in Europe, thanks to its strong growth capabilities and excellent egg-laying abilities. However, due to their distinctive crests, they are often considered more as pets than mere livestock.
