The man who pushed his son around the world, in more than 1000 marathons and triathlons. Dick Hoyt the embodiment of resilience and perseverance gave his son a wonderful life

In a world where love often seems to be in short supply, Dick Hoyt’s story is a shining example of a parent’s unconditional love for their child. For over three decades, Dick pushed his son, Rick, in his wheelchair in over 1000 marathons and triathlons around the world.

Rick was born with cerebral palsy, which left him unable to walk, talk or move his limbs. But that didn’t stop Dick from including his son in his life and passions. When Rick was 15 years old, he expressed his desire to participate in a charity run for a local basketball player who had become paralyzed in an accident. Dick, a former military man, agreed to push his son in the race, not realizing that this would be the start of an incredible journey that would change both of their lives.

From that day forward, Dick and Rick became a team, with Dick pushing Rick’s wheelchair in races across the country and around the world. They became famous for their incredible feats of endurance, competing in Ironman triathlons and 100-mile ultra-marathons. They even completed the Boston Marathon over 30 times, with Dick pushing Rick the entire way.
